What Does investing in Rhode Island Ave Look Like?

• Grant programs to support new and existing small businesses along Rhode Island Avenue NE
• A dedicated source of funding for streetscape improvements designed to make Rhode Island Avenue NE a walkable, bikeable, liveable community center – starting with the beautiful commercial area of Woodridge
• Transportation designed to bring more consumers to Rhode Island Avenue NE such as a Circulator bus between Costco and Rhode Island Avenue Metro station or a Circulator bus or direct line from downtown DC to Mt. Rainier, MD – expanding the consumer base by making Woodridge and Brookland more accessible to residents west of the Metro tracks
• Funding for the Retail Incentive Amendment Act, which creates a retail priority area along Rhode Island Avenue NE

• The residents of Ward 5 want a sustainable, walkable, and vibrant commercial corridor that provides services for residents in our own neighborhood – meeting the city’s vision of Sustainable DC.
• Investment in Rhode Island Avenue NE encourages small business growth, providing new, local job opportunities for our community’s youth and unemployed, and recaptures the sales tax dollars lost to surrounding areas like Hyattsville, Takoma Park and Silver Spring, MD
• Creating new affordable housing opportunities can meet the demands of a growing population and residents who want to move back into Ward 5
